Kilworth House before and after

Wedding Photo Editing

For me when I press the camera button that is only the start of the photo process. There will be extra magic that is applied to some images with my wedding photo editing

Brooksby Hall

Not every image will require the amount of work that you see on this page. But these are a few examples of the kind of work that I do on some photos

It can be tempting to over edit a photo but even when a lot of work has been carried out on a photo the end result should still look natural. So when done right you should not be able to tell that anything has been done at all, unless you can compare the original. Like this Sutton Bonnington Hall wedding photo

Wedding venues need to have all the health and safety signage and exit signs. But sometimes I even have trouble with something as simple as a door knob like this photo edit at a Brooksby Hall wedding and so in this case I have removed the door knob too

Every wedding photographer will say that they edit their photos. But it could just mean simply selecting the best images or adjusting brightness.

A wedding photographer doesn’t actually have to have any editing skills as they can pay a 3rd party. These usually will be based overseas and will carry out all the colour correcting for them and even decide which photos to keep and which to delete. I prefer to keep 100% control of my images for both security and artistic reasons.

Colour correcting should be carried out on a professional grade and calibrated monitor in a light controlled environment. A laptop is not suitable due to its high contrast and colour saturation. Also the way the screen works when viewing the screen at different angles will affect how the photo looks.

Exit signs are a particular problem that I come across more than any other item to be removed

But its not just the exit signs, like this wedding photo taken at a Donnington Park Farmhouse wedding

At the age of 16 I worked for 7 years Leicester’s top professional photo print labs. This is where I was trained in colour grading for photo printing.

Sometimes I may only need to increase the shadow brightness and add detail in the whites.

Many photographers use an automated process called HDR which automatically lightens dark areas and darkens light areas. But this it is often over done and it can end up with a photo looking other worldly with no blacks and all the whites turn to a grey tone with a grey dress and odd looking skin tones. So I prefer to do it by hand and retain more control

This wedding photo of the groom and grooms-men. The Dad on the right did not get the socks memo so I added a pair on for him afterwards in photoshop.

Video guys have to do their job too and can sometimes stray into my photos without knowing. So a quick photo edit and its sorted.

Sometimes I may edit the distracting elements but then that shows up others like with this Mythe Barn wedding photo editing example
